I often receive messages asking me for advice, on people wanting to become a Wiccan but they don't have money for tools, or their family/friends might be against it, or they simply don't know where to start. I always find myself in a struggle to respond because these messages reflect how Wicca has become an attainable thing by following certain steps or owning certain things when in reality it is so much simpler than that. Allow me to explain.
Wicca is about who you are as a person, your core beliefs and what your values are. The basic principle of Wicca - the Wiccan Rede - is key here. Does it resonate with you, do you believe in the philosophy of Wicca?
Wicca isn’t about owning fancy tools or crystals or dressing a certain way, you don’t need anything to practice Wicca, you only need your heart and your mind. Of course, having tools or clothing to reflect your beliefs to the outside is not a bad thing either, but my point is that this is just a 'bonus' and shouldn't be what initially brings you to Wicca. Wicca isn't about aesthetics is what I am trying to say.
So if you are interested in being a Wiccan, my advice is to simply learn as much as you can, either by looking online or in books, buy them or read them in libraries if you can, and then to decide if this path speaks to your heart. You don’t need to wear symbols of Wicca or have an altar, all you need is the intention and to live by the values. The first step is understanding what Wicca is and isn't. The next is to understand that Wicca is not something you can learn in a week or a month or even in a year - it is a continuous process.

In our world, people like to show what they have online and I believe a lot of newbie Wiccans (and witches) might become clouded by all these things that we see every day online. And I am not saying that showing your craft in the way you dress or the pictures you upload on Instagram is in any way a bad thing - in fact, I believe it is a good thing in many ways as it can be a creative outlet for oneself. However, and I do think everyone knows this at this point - Instagram can be deceiving, and often people forget that the things we see online are not always an accurate representation of physical reality. Going back to the intention-part. Wicca is about you, deep inside, and the message I want you to remember is that it doesn't matter how you look and dress, how many things you own or don't own, because at the end of the day, if your intentions are there and your mind and heart are in synchronicity, that is all that matters.
Blessed Be!
